Introduction to Tourism –Meaning and Definition of Tourism, Basis of Tourism ,Dimensions of Tourism phenomenon. Understanding Tourism terminology. Concept of a Tourist ,Visitor and an Excursionist- WTO’s Classification of Travelers, limits to travel.

Nature of Tourism –Basic nature of tourism, Lei per’s Model on nature of tourism-three basic elements Tourists, Geographical element & Tourism Industry. Varied benefits of tourism.Types of Tourism – On the basis of movement patterns, seasonal character, purpose of tourism and Forms of Tourism.

UNIT III
Components of Tourism- The basic or Primary components that formulate Tourism –Transportation- Air, Water, Land, Road. Accommodation- Hotel, Motel, Resort, Caravans, Youth hostels etc . Attraction- Monuments, Theme Parks, Wildlife, Museums, Art Galleries, Cultural centers. Tourism Infrastructure and Superstructure. Secondary components. Peters inventory of Tourist attraction : Cultural, Traditions, Scenic, Entertainment, Others.
